The Market

The 2000 Report of the Central Statistical Office f Trinidad and Tobago showed that the Hindu population in the nation comprised 23.4% of the national population. Historically the Hindu population continueas to maintain  near to quarter of the general population. Yet despite this numerical size the Hindu population religious needs are virtually ignored by the national media and even the Indian formatted media house.

Features will be carried live on Radio Jaagriti 102.7FM. Religious observances and special programming will be continuous. THe Indian radio stations all have limited Hindu devotional programs on the morning daily and thereafter Hindu programming ceases. More often than not commercial interests take precedent over religious programming.

Established in 1952, the SDMS is the nation's largest Hindu organization and indeed the largest Hindu organization in the Caribbean. The SDMA operates, and manages over 250 temples, 48 schools and 12 pre-schools across the nation. The SDMS has within its organization over 250 pundits and 1,200 teachers. We point this out to highlight the strength of the SDMS as a national institution of long standing as well as its linkages with the community that the station is intended to target. While other stations were launched searching to establish a market, Radio Jaagriti 102.7FM virtually will be launched with its market - Listening - Audience.

The SDMS as the largest Hindu organization host numerous national and regional Hindu activities and as a consequence will have a wealth of local and relevant programming that will be dynamic and interesting. In particular nearly each week there are the nightly Ramayans that extol the virtues of Hinduism using the Holy Ramayana. Internationally the SDMS is linked with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of India. This organization is the largest Hindu organization in India and by extension the world.

The Radio forms part of the SDMS family and as such guided by the religious philosophy of orthodox Sanatan DHarma. As such all revenues generated after operating expenditure will be used to assist the religious institutions of the SDMS such as schools and temples. Advertisers will essentially be contributing to the community in a manner and way that no other radio station offers in Trinidad.

Given the experience of the Christian formatted radio station Issac 98.1FM that has emerged to command a major section of the radio market share it is anticipated that Radio Jaagriti 102.7FM a Hindu counterpart will enjoy similar success. We are certain and by extension will capture market share.
